RATING: 4 out of 5 stars

Welcome to a review of the Sony DAV-TZ140 DVD Home Theater System. This home theater system is compact, and doesn’t take up much space, so it works very well in small spaces. The set-up and installation is easy, however, some users have commented that there are lots of wires to hook up. Because it only has 300 watts, it is best designed for use in smaller rooms since you will not get the same quality of sound in a larger room. The sound quality is clear but not “booming” loud as with other systems that are equipped with more wattage. It has been noted by many that the sound quality while playing movies in the DVD player is excellent but somehow diminishes and gets a bit duller while watching cable TV. Take note that this is a simple DVD player and not a blu-ray, therefore movies made especially for blu-ray cannot be viewed on this DVD player.

The part number for the remote control that comes with this unit is RM-ADU138. The remote control works well and is easy to use.

This home theater system is capable of upscaling your DVDs to near 1080p HD quality. It has a USB port up front that lets you play movies, music and view your photos. While it supports MP3 formats for music, it does not support AVI, MP4 or WMV formats. Pictures can be viewed using the JPEG format. One of the complaints about the speakers is that it does not allow you to adjust the bass or treble of the subwoofer independently. Also, while for many who have purchased this system the sound volume has been adequate, there are an equal amount of consumers who have said that this system needs louder volume. Overall, this is a compact unit best equipped for smaller spaces where 300 watts is enough to give you a good, crisp sound system, for a good price.

PROS:
• Inexpensive
• Easy to set-up
• USB port to play movies, music and view pictures
• Compact system that can fit anywhere
• Crisp sound quality

CONS:

• Sound volume not loud enough
• Cannot adjust the treble and bass on the subwoofer
• Does not support AVI, MP4 or WMV formats
