Welcome to a review of the Onkyo TX-NR616 7.2-Ch THX Certified Network A/V Receiver. The TX-NR616 receiver is priced at low to mid-range but has much to offer in the way of features and a powerful home theater system. It has THX Select2 Plus certification providing you with the certainty that it will deliver clear, sharp sound quality and crisp, detailed, high resolution picture quality. Equipped with a 7 channel amplifier and giving you 100 watts per channel, it will rock the house once calibrated and set-up to your taste. There are plenty of HDMI inputs and outputs to accommodate all of your devices including a blu-ray player, cable/satellite box, gaming console, PC, TV or any other HDMI enabled equipment. The USB port allows you to connect your iPhone, iPod or flash drive to stream your music, videos or do firmware updates. Although there is no built-in WiFi or Bluetooth, adapters are available to make it possible to utilize these features therefore giving you access to music, videos, and the multitude of music services on the internet including Pandora, Slacker, Rhapsody, Spotify and more.

The part number for the remote control is RC-834M.

Onkyo, as a measure to prepare its customers for the future, has equipped this receiver to upscale blu-rays and DVDs to 4k resolution with a compatible 4k TV. The multi-room feature allows you to play music in more than one room from the same system. The TX-NR616 is outfitted with Audyssey Technology, created to optimize the sound quality. For example, Audyssey Dynamic EQ maintains a consistent bass response, tonal balance, and surround-sound effect at different volume levels, therefore there is balance, regardless of the volume level. As with any piece of electronic equipment, there are drawbacks and the biggest one with this model is that many customers have purchased units that do not function and need to be returned. The quality control aspect comes into play and is questionable. For those customers who purchase a receiver without any glitches, it is well worth the price for the power, high resolution sound and picture quality that it provides.

PROS:
• Moderately priced
• High resolution sound and picture quality
• 4K upscaling
• 8in/2 out HDMI ports

CONS:

• No printed owner’s manual
• Consistency with quality control and delivering a good product
